The representative of the famous American family was a collector, philanthropist and interior designer.

Over the years, she amassed a collection of jewelry, including this bracelet Ms. Eisenhower bought at the Dietrich estate auction in 1992 for $990,000.

The bracelet was made to Marlene's personal order by the head of Van Cleef & Arpels, Louis Arpels.

The actress gave 30 of her jewelry to the jeweler, from which he took precious stones for a bracelet.

Translated from French, its name Jarretiere means "garter", alluding to the item of women's toilet, which gave the bracelet even more audacity in conservative times.

Its design is quite unusual - a huge disk is decorated with rubies in a cushion cut, and it is framed by diamonds in a baguette cut, which was rarely used.

The base of the jewelry is made of platinum.

The bracelet was the most favorite in the actress's collection and Marlene appeared with it on her arm in Alfred Hitchcock's 1950 thriller "Stage Fear".

After Dietrich was forced to sell almost her entire jewelry collection, this bracelet was the only one she had left.

But in 1992, the jewelry was put up for sale at the Sothebys auction.

Shortly after this auction, on May 6, 1992, Marlene died.
