Health experts report an increase in cases of scarlet fever and chicken pox, and principals of schools in the capital signal that in addition to sick students, they also have sick teachers.

"The number we are observing at the moment is large - both chickenpox, streptococcal pharyngitis and scarlet fever.

The probable reason is that during the pandemic, children and adults were isolated and to some extent this lowered the immunity", said pediatrician from DKC "Vita" Dr. Kristin Genkova.

More often, the sick are in the age range of 5 - 12 years.

In case of doubt, the physician recommended consultation with a pediatrician or general practitioner.

Dr. Genkova also explained the difference between chickenpox and streptococcal pharyngitis: "Chickenpox is a viral disease, and streptococcal pharyngitis is caused by bacteria."

Scarlet fever, the pediatrician pointed out, comes with a rash, but it is possible that there is only tonsillitis.

Chickenpox almost always has a rash.

“Both are quite contagious, but chicken pox a little more so.

"One child can infect about ten other people around him," commented Dr. Genkova.
