The 95th award ceremony of the most prestigious film awards took place tonight.

This year's host was Jimmy Kimmel, and the ceremony was held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

For the first time since 1961, the red carpet where the stars show off their elegant looks is champagne.

However, the curtains and other elements of the decor remain red.

"I know it's a dream come true to be here. This year we finally got out of our homes and watched movies in theaters," Jimmy Kimmel opened the 95th Academy Awards.

"If someone commits an act of violence, you get an Oscar. We also have a crisis team. If you want to pull a prank and hit me, you have to go through several people - you have to fight Michelle Yeoh, you have to fight Spider-Man ( starring Andrew Garfield), with The Mandalorian (played by Pedro Pascal)," Kimmel joked in reference to last year's scandal when Will Smith slapped then-host Chris Rock after he made a bad joke about address of Smith's wife.

Actress and singer Sophia Carson and songwriter Diane Warren performed the Oscar-nominated song Applause from the movie Tell It Like a Woman live during the ceremony.

This is Warren's 14th Oscar nomination.

Hristo (note - Hristo Grozev, who participated in the creation of the film "Navalni"), you risked everything to tell this story.

This is what the director of the documentary about Alexei Navalny - Daniel Rohr - said when he went on stage with part of the production team to receive the "Oscar" for the best documentary film.

Bulgarian journalist Hristo Grozev is part of the crew of the film "Navalni".

"There is one person who could not be here tonight - Alexei Navalny. Alexei, we must not be afraid to oppose the dictator," he added.

"My husband is in prison because he tells the truth. Alexey, I dream of the day when you are free and when our country is also free," said the wife of Russian opposition leader Yulia Navalny.

On the occasion of the film "The Banshees of Inisheriin" receiving 9 Oscar nominations, host Jimmy Kimmel appeared with a donkey on stage.

"This is Jenny the donkey from the Banshees of Inishreen, I specially put her on a plane from Ireland," the presenter joked.

During the ceremony, the Oscar-nominated song from an Indian production - Naatu Naatu from the film RRR - was also performed for the first time.

It also became the best original song after receiving the Oscar.

Lady Gaga wrote the song for "Top Gun: Maverick" in the basement.

She said this shortly before performing the Oscar-nominated for best original song Hold My Hand live.

Pregnant Rihanna performed Lift Me Up, the Best Original Song nominee from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
