When the royal couple arrived at the center, they were introduced to several leaders, including Iman Sufyan Iqbal.

Prince William shook hands with each of the leaders in turn, and one of the gentlemen also reached out to shake the princess's hand.

However, Kate then extended her hand to shake Iman Sufyan, who instead pressed his hand to his heart and bowed his head.

The princess quickly straightened up and, removing her hand, also bowed her head, greeting him.

Placing your hand over your heart and bowing your head slightly is considered a polite way to greet a woman in some Muslim traditions.

It will be recalled that a similar situation recently arose with Queen Letizia of Spain, when she welcomed the ambassador of Iran at the Royal Palace in Madrid.

He was seen shaking hands with her husband King Philip, but instead bowed his head to the Queen and placed two hands over his heart.
