The health contribution must be at least equal to the minimum for Europe if we want European health care.

We currently pay the lowest.

Some conscientiously pay for insurance, and others, when they have to, use health care against paying the minimum for the last 5 years.

This is what Dr. Ivan Madzharov, chairman of the Bulgarian Medical Union, said about "Your Day".

According to him, municipal hospitals are forced to treat uninsured patients because they feel that they have to fulfill their functions and cannot refuse help.

"If there really are 2 million uninsured, this is a very serious problem. The burden of treating the uninsured has been transferred to state and municipal hospitals. The state should say that the uninsured are covered by the Ministry of Health, the costs should not be borne by the hospitals. Every a hospital is obliged to urgently admit a needy patient in the first 24 hours. Even planned admission is not refused to uninsured people, but this is how municipal hospitals fall into great difficulties with their expenses," he stated.

According to him, there should be a campaign of persuasion to the health insured with a promise of quality healthcare.

"A large part of non-paying insurances know that they are very low and cover almost nothing, so they choose to pay for their treatment. Funds for Bulgarian hospitals must be increased, because otherwise some will inevitably go bankrupt," warned Dr. Madzharov.
