[Reporter Luo Xinzhen/Pingtung Report] Pingtung straw weaver artist Li Long, who was awarded the "Soul of a Craftsman" by the Chinese Cultural Federation last year, was invited by the Pingtung County Government to hold a solo exhibition at the Pingtung Yanwu Field yesterday, showing how deeply loved by Japanese people. The favorite special blessing shimenawa, as well as various straw weaving crafts that integrate Taiwanese and Japanese cultures, showcasing the ingenuity of national treasures.

Li Long, a 74-year-old farmer from Pingtung, has been associated with rice since he was a child. With a pair of skillful hands and full of wisdom and creativity, he made straw into various handicrafts. The form and size of Shimenawa semi-finished products sold in containers every year not only generate foreign exchange income with straw, but also build a cultural bridge between Taiwan and Japan.

According to the Cultural Office of Ping County Government, the leftover rice stalks after rice harvesting were originally inconspicuous, but Li Long reused them, combining environmental protection and culture, and transformed them into interesting straw crafts.

The simple and unadorned life materials of ordinary people are transformed into rich and full creative energy in his hands, weaving the cultural style of an era and presenting the new value of the fusion of traditional industries and cultural creativity.

The zhulian rope woven by Li Long is very ingenious, and can be seen at the gate of the Pingtung Yanwu Field and the bus shelter in front. In this exhibition, there are zhulian ropes that reproduce the style of Japanese colonial architecture or decorate Japanese restaurants, and lifelike Dragons, crabs, knives, swords and other wonderful exhibits; Li Long said that as long as there is interest, regardless of age, he is happy to pass it on.

According to the Cultural Office of the County Government, Li Long’s solo exhibition will be on display until May 21. During the period, a straw weaving experience course will be planned, including children playing with grass knives and Japanese-style shimenawa.
