The big red boots took the internet by storm with their quirky, cartoonish design and size, and were even spotted at New York Fashion Week.

Created by MSCHF, a New York art collective, the boots sold out within minutes of their official online release on February 16.

MSCHF, pronounced mischief, hints that the inspiration for the boots came from the Dora the Explorer cartoon, specifically Dora's friend Boots.

However, fans of the new fashion trend don't think so.

They believe the boots bear a striking resemblance to the shoes of the anime character Astroboy, created by Osamu Tezuka in 1951.

Many celebrities and influencers recognized the unusual boots and started wearing them.

A pair of big red boots costs $350.

And the hashtag #bigredboots also took over TikTok and reached an enviable 27 million views.

The boots have a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) rubber shell and a microporous rubber foam sole, a material identical to that used to make Crocs.

Rapper and producer Pharrell Williams succeeds late designer Virgil Abloh at fashion house Louis Vuitton

It turns out that boots are not only a financial investment, but also time-consuming.

It turns out that because of the rubber material they are made of, the boots are difficult to remove.

Some users say that it took them as long as 20 minutes to download them, "24 Chasa" writes.

But for their creators, it's all about art.

"The big red boots are the realization of a particular kind of cartoonish abstraction of a shoe," says MSCHF co-founder Daniel Greenberg in an interview with Highsnobiety.

But the MSCHF brand is not yet entering the world of unusual shoes.

In 2019, they created "Jesus Shoes".

These are literally Nike sneakers with holy water from the Jordan River in the sole.

So you can literally walk on water for $1425.

And in partnership with Lil Nas X, they even release "Satan Shoes", which are modified Nike Air Max 97 with a drop of blood in the sole.

The huge boots have truly become a worldwide sensation, with many celebrities boasting a pair of the unusual shoes.

Seth Rollins of the World Wrestling Federation wears a pair as he takes down an opponent in the ring, reports Today.

Singer Janelle Monae also flaunted her big boots.

Diplo also showed off his red boots at the New York Knicks game on February 13.
