Recently, many patients have consulted the breast surgery clinic for minimally invasive breast tumor surgery, wanting to learn about Vacuum-Assisted Breast Biopsy (VABB) (Figure 1), hoping to remove the lesion , restore health as soon as possible.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, breast cancer has long ranked first in the incidence of cancer among women.

Clinical breast cancer screening can be performed through palpation, breast ultrasound and mammography, and advanced breast examinations such as breast MRI can also be used to assist diagnosis. It is hoped that abnormal lesions, tiny calcifications and other signs of breast tumors can be detected early, and then tissue sections can be made Pathological examination was performed to confirm the diagnosis.

Common ways to obtain breast tissue are: fine needle cell aspiration, coarse needle sectioning, surgery, vacuum aspiration-assisted sectioning.

Among them, "suction-assisted breast biopsy" is a minimally invasive breast tumor surgery introduced in recent years. As the name suggests, breast tumors are removed by vacuum suction (Figure 2).

Return to normal life the next day after surgery

Compared with traditional lumpectomy surgery, "suction-assisted breast section surgery" has the advantages of small wound, short recovery period, low pain, and short operation time.

Taking a single lesion within 2 cm as an example, the operation time is about 10-20 minutes; for multiple tumors or larger than 2 cm, the operation time will be longer.

After the operation, the breast on the affected side only felt swollen and slightly painful, but it improved greatly the next day and returned to normal life.

The operation is performed under local or hypnotic anesthesia. Under the guidance of ultrasound, the vacuum aspiration-assisted needle enters the tumor site through the wound below 0.3 cm, and completely removes the tumor (Figure 3).

The removed lesion is immediately sucked into the collection box at the rear end of the auxiliary needle without contacting the breast tissue next to the tumor, so there is no risk of infection or residual lesion.

This method can remove benign breast lesions, and can also obtain correct pathological results through accurate sectioning.

High accuracy of pathological examination

According to foreign research statistics, "suction-assisted breast biopsy" is not only used as biopsy surgery, but also used for the removal of benign breast tumors. The complete removal rate is as high as 99.7%, and the two-year recurrence rate is less than 5%.

However, for breast tumors that cannot be judged as benign lesions, it is still recommended to confirm the lesion type with a thick needle before surgery.
