On February 8, the Vilnius District Court revoked the detention of lawyer

Mantas Danelius

, who is suspected of espionage for Belarus and openly admitted to cooperation with the Belarusian KGB.

"The court believes that the goals of pre-trial detention provided by law can be achieved with a milder measure of restraint," the prosecutor told the Lithuanian news agency BNS.

The court extended the suspect's detention until March 28.

Danelius was detained in Lithuania on September 28, 2022 for two months.

At the end of November, the detention was continued.

Danelius is suspected of collecting and passing on information to the special services of Belarus, in particular the KGB.

According to the Vilnius prosecutor's office, he was most interested in refugees from Belarus and Ukraine: he offered them legal assistance, but in fact he collected information on the financing of local Belarusian and Ukrainian organizations, and also tried to interfere with Ukrainians and Belarusians living in Lithuania.

Among other things, Danelyus found out for whom aid is collected from the refugees and how it is distributed, how Belarusians and Ukrainians live in Lithuania, how the repatriation of Belarusians fleeing repression to Lithuania is organized.

The head of the organization "Our House"

Olga Karach

, in particular, considered such questions of the lawyer suspicious.

In total, Danelyus visited 20-30 Belarusian organizations.

A police report was filed against him.

After learning that a criminal case was opened against him, Danelyus tried to escape to Belarus, but did not make it.

Now he faces up to 15 years in prison.

The case of espionage was the tenth for the Lithuanian.

Previously, he was tried eight times, and the ninth criminal case is currently being considered by the Vilnius District Court.

We are talking about suspected falsification of documents and their improper use in 2014-2015.

The prosecution in that case believes that Danelyus gained the trust of the management of various companies, and then imposed his own rules there - he fired directors, changed the charter, forged documents, falsified invoices and even went to court with a request to file a bankruptcy case for one of the companies. by showing fake papers.

Earlier, Mantas Danelyus gave Belarusian propagandist

Ksenia Lebedeva

a video with

Viktar Savich

, an ex-fighter of Kalinovsky's regiment in Ukraine .

These videos were shown on Belarusian state television.

The Belarusian volunteer himself later called what was shown on television "complete delirium."
