The Lithuanian agency, citing colleagues from the State Border Guard of Latvia, noted that on the previous day, 37 attempts to illegally cross the Belarusian-Latvian border were warned (6 a day before).

According to information from the Polish Border Guard, 33 foreigners, including citizens of Turkey, Iran, Ethiopia and Nigeria, tried to cross the border from Belarus over the past day (55 the day before).

Since the beginning of 2023, 2,256 attempts of illegal penetration into the EU from the Belarusian territory have been recorded (1,556 to Poland, 427 to Latvia, 273 to Lithuania).

• The migration crisis on the border of Belarus and the EU countries began in the spring of 2021.

  At first, Lithuania experienced a multiple increase in the number of illegal migrants.

  After Vilnius decided not to detain migrants, but to return them to Belarus, the flow of illegal immigrants was reoriented to Poland, and then to Latvia.

• Before the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, migration flows decreased significantly, but then increased again.

• The leadership of the Baltic states and Poland assigned the responsibility for the migration crisis at the border to the authorities of Belarus, who in response called the cause of the crisis the actions of the West in the countries from which migrants arrive.
