In November 2020, Belarusians created a petition at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, in which they complained about the queues at the Belarusian consulate in Poland and asked the agency to increase its staff if possible.

In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus acknowledged the problem and promised that the department would "consider options for optimizing the work process of the consular department of the embassy" and "within the available possibilities" would take measures to reduce the waiting period for reception on consular issues, reports petitions.by.

At the same time, Belarusians were advised to contact the Belarusian consulates in Białystok and Biała Podlaska, whose capabilities now "enable to respond more promptly to requests" (the waiting period for reception by appointment ranges from several days to 1 month).

Deputy Minister

Yevhen Shastakov

also noted in his answer that the embassy works most promptly in 2 cases: on issues of an extreme nature, when Belarusian citizens need urgent help, and also without prior appointment they accept applications for the issuance of a certificate to return to Belarus in case of loss of passport and desire come back

In October 2020, Poland and Belarus mutually recalled their ambassadors: the Polish ambassador to Belarus, Artur Michalski, as well as the Belarusian ambassador to Poland, Vladimir Chushav, returned to their countries "for consultations".

This happened against the background of the aggravation of relations between the countries after the 2020 presidential elections.

At that time, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanded from the diplomatic missions of Poland and Lithuania to significantly reduce the number of employees in the country.

Since then, Belarus has been represented in Poland by the chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of Belarus in Warsaw.

As of November 30, 2022, 68,684 citizens of Belarus lived in Poland.
