The website Zerkalo.io writes about it.

Previously, educational institutions already banned parties before Halloween.

Zerkalo.io talked to BSU students and tried to find out in the rector's office what is wrong with Valentine's Day.

Natallia

, a student of BSU

, said that every year her faculty prepared festive events until February 14.

For example, "speed dating" or watching romantic movies.

However, in 2023, both the teachers-organizers of the hostel and the members of the student union of the faculty warned: the vice-chancellor for educational work of BSU received a ban on the celebration of Valentine's Day.

"They didn't explain to us what exactly is the problem with this holiday, they just gave us this information.

You can only rename events.

It is incomprehensible to us, because every year various events were held on the theme of St. Valentine's Day: both at the faculty and in the dormitories.

And it was forbidden to celebrate Halloween a couple of years ago," Natalya explains.

Similar information was confirmed to the publication by students of other faculties of BSU: chemistry, philology and journalism.

According to them, the ban was sent to the student and creative union of the university.

"We were told that we do not celebrate such holidays as Valentine's Day or Halloween," says

Irina

, a member of the BSU student union .

- This is explained by the fact that these holidays are Western, they have nothing to do with us and our culture."

Journalist Zerkalo, as an interested student, called the vice-chancellor for educational work and social issues of BSU

Ganna Bakun

.

She asked what is wrong with Valentine's Day and why it cannot be celebrated now.

The rector's office, referring to the "hierarchy in communication", advised to contact the curators at the university or make an appointment with the vice-rector at a certain time.

  • Earlier, in December 2022, the Council of Ministers of Belarus decided to exclude the celebration of Halloween and the use of foreign characters such as Hagi Wagi toys in educational institutions.

This allegedly contradicts the traditional values of the Belarusian people.

Instead, the Council of Ministers recommended developing "proposals for cultural import substitution and strengthening of spiritual and moral security."
