Passengers of Emirates flight to New Zealand had taken off from Dubai last Friday morning.

According to a Fox News report, after flying for more than 13 hours, the plane landed back at the same airport from where it took off due to an unusual incident.

According to FlightAware, the pilot made a U-turn about halfway through the 9,000-mile journey.

The plane finally landed back in Dubai on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

It is being told that the pilot had taken the U-turn because a severe flood situation occurred in New Zealand's Auckland city, due to which the airport was closed over the weekend. 

Auckland airport officials said on Twitter that, 'It is extremely disappointing, but it is necessary to take important steps regarding the safety of passengers.

Auckland Airport is assessing the damage to our international terminal and has unfortunately determined that no international flights can operate today.

We know it is very disappointing, but the safety of passengers is our top priority.

A state of emergency continues in New Zealand's largest city as more heavy rain is expected this week.

Four people died in the severe flood.

It has been shown in the video on social media that people are trapped in waist-deep water and rescue operations are being carried out on kayaks.
