Liu Ruihong, deputy general manager of the Asset Development Center of the Taiwan Railway Bureau, said that the first phase of the project includes the vision hall, micro settlements, cultural Chuang Xiaopu and the locomotive-themed restaurant are expected to open in May and June this year. The project in the whole district is targeted to be completed by the end of the year and will officially open in March next year. It is hoped that it will become a new base for sightseeing in Miaoli.

In order to preserve all kinds of characteristic trains, the Taiwan Railway Bureau built the Miaoli Railway Locomotive Exhibition Hall on the south side of Miaoli Railway Station in 1992 to provide a space to get close to the railway culture. However, the simple scaffolding needs to be renovated due to the years. From 2018, it will invest a budget of 760 million yuan to plan and integrate the old dormitory, backup dormitory, coal throwing practice field and other areas in the first railway village. The Taiwan Railway Bureau expects to build the first phase of the project, which has already been completed, into a people-friendly recreational space that combines the display of railway cultural relics and local Hakka culture. The restaurant is expected to introduce well-known catering and art chain brands to create a space for parent-child activities.
