Lady Diana's

dresses

continue to enjoy incredible public interest even decades after her death, and sell for unheard of sums at auction.

But this was all after the wedding with Prince Charles, but before this grand event, she was an ordinary kindergarten teacher.

When the heir to the throne and Lady Spencer got engaged on February 6, the bride was only 19 years old.

At that time, Diana dressed simply, modestly and inconspicuously, she also did not know much about fashion and brands, and had only a few things in her closet.

At first, the

engagement

was kept secret for several weeks and during this time young Diana needed to find an outfit in which she would appear on February 24 as the official bride of the Prince of Wales.

Therefore, she wanted a special outfit.

The girl went to the expensive salon Bellville Sassoon in London, founded by the designer Belinda Bellville, but there she almost experienced a scene from the

movie "Beauty"

- closing time was approaching and the salesperson, not recognizing the girl (although many media had already written about her), advised her to go to a budget store: "Harrod's is just around the corner," the store clerk told her.

It is not known whether Diana answered those words, but the next day she went to Harrod's together with her mother and it was there that she bought her famous laconic blue suit with a jacket and a skirt below the knees from the British label Cojana, which the future Princess of Wales combined with a white blouse in bird print, black shoes and tights.

The suit was austere, understated and matched perfectly with the

ring , set with diamonds and an oval Ceylon sapphire in the center.

It was said to have cost around £309 and the label that made it specialized in formal casual wear and was known for using designs bought from big labels such as Chanel in Paris and reproducing them for the British market.

Looking at this outfit on a 19-year-old girl, it is clear that it was not exactly the image of a glamorous new princess, but it was in line with the upper class dress code of the time and Diana's aristocratic background.

According to its style and design, the suit would be better suited for an older lady, and it did not fit her very well.

However, this image did not prevent her from becoming the main It girl of the 1980s, then she began to learn from mistakes and used the advice of the best stylists in London.

"You can imagine what Belinda [Belleville] and David [Sassoon] felt when they realized the future Princess of Wales had been turned down," Kensington Palace exhibition curator Matthew Storey told People, referring to the store's founder and her partner in business of David Sassoon.

But despite such an unpleasant acquaintance with the Bellville Sassoon brand, Diana still returned there after the announcement of the engagement and was already happily served there at the highest level.

It is known that the brand sewed outfits for Diana for the honeymoon, as well as several looks for evening outings.
