Elton John has postponed a planned concert in Auckland due to torrential rains and flash floods that have inundated New Zealand, Reuters reported.

The concert in the country's largest city in the North Island was to be one of several final appearances in the career of the global rock star, whose real name is Reginald Kenneth Dwye.

Elton John started in September 2018 his last world concert tour, named "Farewell Yellow Brick Road".

About 40,000 people were supposed to attend the canceled concert.

"Due to the inclement weather tonight's show has been cancelled.

Our operations team is working to reroute buses for special events to help people get home as soon as possible," the city's transportation authority said in a statement on Twitter.

Oakland's Office of Emergency Management said in a post on Twitter that the north, northwest and west parts of the city were affected by significant flooding with conditions expected to worsen.

The agency advised residents in flood-prone areas to prepare to evacuate.

Videos on social media showed firefighters, police and military personnel rescuing stranded people from flooded homes using ropes and inflatable boats.

There are no details on how many people have been evacuated so far.

Major roads were blocked by the floods, causing long traffic jams on the highways.

Flights to Oakland have also been delayed or canceled due to bad weather, BTA adds.
