The director of the "Belarusian Book Collection" publishing house Genadz Vinyarski wrote on Facebook that on January 26 he submitted the publisher's certificate to the Ministry of Information.

"That's how my epic story as a publisher began.

27 years of work, about 3,000 titles of books, presentations, exhibitions... Today, he submitted a publisher's certificate to the Ministry of Information.

Soon we will start the process of liquidation of PUP "Knigazbor", so buy books from our publishing house in bookstores while they are available."

Genadz Vinyarski also wrote that he will not give an interview or comments about the closure of the publishing house.

On January 22, it became known that the Ministry of Information suspended the activities of the independent publishing house "Knigazbor" for one month.

As reported in the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Information, the reason is "violation of the deadlines for applying to the Ministry of Information with a notification about the change of data, which are subject to inclusion in the State Register of publishers, producers and distributors of printed publications."

The publishing house "Knigazbor" was registered in 2006, the director of the publishing house was Genadz Vinyarski, the editor-in-chief was Kastus Tvirka.

  • In January 2021, the Department of Financial Investigations of the State Control Committee took away the equipment and blocked the publishing house's account, but already in June the publishing house received a message about the possibility of using the bank account again.

  • In October 2022, the chain of state-owned bookstores "Belkniga" broke contracts with "Yanushkevich", "Knigazbor" and "Goliafy" publishing houses, which publish books in the Belarusian language.

  • On June 8, 2022, the accounts of the independent publishing houses "Knigazbor" and "Yanushkevich", arrested in January, were unblocked.

  • The heads of both publishing houses, Genadz Vinyarski and Andrei Yanushkevich, were involved in a criminal case on economic activity and were under a non-disclosure agreement.

    On July 17, the cases against them were dismissed.

  • On January 13, 2022, Gennady Vinyarsky was detained by the Department for Combating Economic Crimes (DEC).

  • In May, after a search in the "Knigavka" bookstore, the director of the "Yanushkevich" publishing house, Andrei Yanushkevich, was detained and served 28 days.

    Together with Yanushkevich, the employee of the bookstore, Nastya Karnatskaya, who spent 23 days in Akrestin prison, was detained.
