The trial of 47-year-old creative writing teacher Jason Myers, accused of having sex with a 17-year-old student, began in Miami on Wednesday.

The crime was committed seven years ago, but the case has only now begun in substance due to Myers' frequent change of defense attorneys and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prosecutors said Meyers encouraged the girl to write more sexually-themed poems, which ultimately led to the sexual act.

The girl, now 24, told the court she "had a crush on him at first" but it was unethical for them to have a relationship as he was a teacher and she was his student.

She further clarified that his wife was also a teacher in the same school and that their children were in the same school and all this would be wrong.

He told me sex would improve my writing, the girl told the court.

According to her, she was in the classroom when he started taking off his pants while they were kissing.
