Blagoevgrad will finally have a 24-hour pharmacy, it became clear after another meeting of Mayor Ilko Stoyanov with representatives of the Regional Pharmaceutical College.

It is expected that from the beginning of February 2023, the activity of pharmacies with night shifts will be restored in Blagoevgrad.

Initially, one pharmacy will serve customers even in the wee hours of the day.

Subsequently, it is possible to have more than one site, which will operate according to a schedule 365 days a year.

In order to create maximum convenience for people, the schedule will be announced in a timely manner in several ways.

Residents and guests of Blagoevgrad will be able to inform themselves through the website of the Municipality of Blagoevgrad, where the duty hours will be published.

Permanent information will also be available on the electronic board located on the facade of the Municipal Administration.

Inquiries can also be made on the 24/7 telephone lines of the Municipality of Blagoevgrad.

The relevant schedule will also be posted in a prominent place at the pharmacies.

The 24-hour pharmacies will work over the counter, with the aim being that people can get the medicines they need at any time of the day.

The costs of pharmacists on duty for the small hours of the day will be at the expense of the Municipality, in case the municipal councilors support the mayor's proposal, which is to be considered as an emergency item tomorrow during a meeting.

When will Blagoevgrad have a 24-hour pharmacy?

"Thank you to the Regional Pharmaceutical College and all the pharmacists involved in the process.

The lack of an adequate state policy in this area has led us to sit down in a spirit of partnership and understanding and reach this result together with RFK.

I thank them because pharmacists at this moment are responding to the needs of society.

We achieved a result following a serious bilateral process.

"Tomorrow I will submit a proposal to the Council of Ministers to accept an estimate for the future budget and to be authorized to sign a contract so that Blagoevgrad has its 24-hour pharmacy," said Mayor Ilko Stoyanov.

"At the moment, Mr. Stoyanov is raising the bar very high and setting an example for other municipalities.

Already a year and a half ago, the Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Union and NSORB held a meeting in this direction, but so far they have not reached a real solution to the problem, which affects a large part of Bulgaria.

In Blagoevgrad, this issue was resolved in 3 months after the start of the negotiations.

This is unprecedented," commented Dr. Konstantin Kachulev, deputy chairman of RFK - Blagoevgrad.

For years, there has been no 24-hour pharmacy in the city, which caused a lot of inconvenience to residents and guests.

The pharmacists explained that they have no financial benefit to work at night, and they are short of staff.

In 2021, two drug vending machines were installed, thereby ensuring the possibility of purchasing essential medicines at night, which are dispensed without a doctor's prescription.
