DEPUTY Minister of Water, Maryprisca Mahundi, has said that the government is continuing with plans to solve water problems in Ukerewe District in Mwanza region.

Mahundi said this today during a one-day visit to the Kazilamkanda water project.

He said that the power outage at the Chabilungo water station was a problem for the residents of Ukerewe to get the service.

He has asked the Rural Water Agency (RUWASA) to ensure that they pay the electricity bill of Shs 64 million, which Ruwasa Ukerewe owes to the National Electricity Corporation (TANESCO).

"I congratulate Ruwasa for the good work they are doing in bringing water to the people, Ruwasa should try hard to pay electricity bills on time and this is due to the fact that most of our water sources use electricity," said Mahundi.

He has instructed Ruwasa Mwanza to continue with the implementation of various water projects.

He promised that the Government will continue to increase the availability of water in the Ukerewe district, where until now the availability of water in the district is 62 percent.

He has instructed Ruwasa and the Water and Sanitation Authority (MWAUWASA) to come up with a specific plan to control water loss.

Ukerewe District Head, Denis Mwila has asked the National Revenue Authority (TRA) to reduce taxes, to pay for the pipes of the Ukara water project.

He congratulated Ruwasa for the installation of new water pumps in Chabilungo station.

Member of Parliament for Ukerewe state, Joseph Mkundi has asked Ruwasa to start an electronic water bill payment service.
