The Belarusian authorities want to auction off the building in the center of Hrodna, where the Polish Educational Society (Polska Macierz Szkolna) was located, reports Polskieradio.

For 12 years, a lyceum also operated in the building, where you could study the Polish language, as well as Polish history and culture.

In September 2022, the Polish Educational Society was liquidated.

The Belarusian authorities accused the organization of allegedly "illegal educational activity".

The Polish Educational Society Polska Macierz Szkolna was re-established on December 3, 1995 in Hrodna by a group of Polish language teachers together with local activists of the Polish minority.

The society was engaged in the education of youth in Belarus, but also in the preservation of Polish culture and revitalization of the lives of minorities.

The organization had branches in Hrodna, Minsk, Braslav, Brest, Pinsk, Volozhyna, Slomin and Vileyka.

The Belarusian regime persecutes the Union of Poles of Belarus, which is not recognized by the authorities, many of its activists were forced to emigrate, and the board member

Andrzej Pachobut

has been under arrest for almost two years.
