The Social Research Center has studied the place of social media use in public opinion as the next blitz survey topic.

According to the information given to APA by the Social Research Center, the use of social media by the population in Azerbaijan is constantly discussed from various aspects.

The dynamics observed with user growth in the Azerbaijani segment of social media is one of the main factors determining the relevance of the topic.

According to "Digital 2022: Azerbaijan" data, there were 5.2 million social media users in the country at the beginning of last year, which corresponds to 50.7% of the country's population.

During 2021-2022, social media users increased by 900 thousand people.

Also, "Meta" advertising data showed that there are 1.6 million Facebook users in Azerbaijan.

In the country, 31.7% of Facebook's advertising population consists of women and 68.3% of men.

It is clear from the data of "GlobalStats" that the users of "Instagram" and "YouTube" have been dominant since the end of last year.

According to the results of a public opinion survey conducted by the Center for Social Research, 72.2% of the population across the country use social media.

(Considering that the survey was conducted with people over 18 years old, the results confirm the statistics).

43.6% of social media users use YouTube, 35.8% use Instagram, 26.5% use Facebook, 25.0% use TikTok, 6.4% use and uses "Twitter" platforms.

Analysis of the results from the gender aspect shows that men use social media more than women.

While 30.1% of Facebook users are women, 69.9% are men.

This trend is typical for other social media platforms as well.

Only among Instagram users, women dominate over men (37.6% women, 34.0% men).

Among social media users, those in the age range of 18-35 years prevail.

For example, 73.9% of "Instagram" users, 52.2% of "YouTube" users, and 43.5% of "TikTok" users belong to these age categories.

According to the survey results, 27.8% of people said that they do not use any social media platform, and the majority of them (60.8%) are people over the age of 65.

The analysis of the results shows that respondents with higher education use social networks relatively more than those with secondary education.

Thus, 82.3% of those with higher education and 66.7% of those with secondary education are social media users.

As part of the survey, it was also studied how many hours of the day the respondents spend on social media.

In response to the question addressed in this direction, 42.5% of respondents up to 1 hour, 38.9% 1-3 hours, 9.6% 3-5 hours, 8.6% more than 5 hours during the day said that they spent a lot of time.

Most of those who reported spending up to 1 hour on social media are women (49.7% women, 34.6% men).

Most of those who spend more than 5 hours are men (41.7% women, 58.3% men).

Also, among them, those belonging to the 18-35 age category prevail.

The survey was conducted in the form of a telephone interview among 384 people over 18 years old in December 2022, the principles of voluntary participation and anonymity were preserved.

The survey covered 12 economic regions and ensured gender balance.

The confidence interval of the results is 95%, the margin of error is equal to 5%.
