"The dictator does not understand that the problem is not with me, but with him," she said.

"It was he who failed the elections, seized power, terrorized people, sold Belarusian sovereignty to Russia and dragged our country into war."

According to the politician, "since 2020, the justice system has turned into a machine of repression and terror."

Absentee trials, "when people cannot even defend themselves", violate the basic rights and freedoms of citizens.

"Justice cannot be expected in this situation.

Defendants are not even told what they are accused of.

They cannot get any information from the lawyers appointed by the regime.

If you hire your own lawyer, he will obviously be fired or even put in prison," Tikhanovskaya said.

She emphasized that there is nothing surprising in this, because if the representatives of Alexander Lukashenko's regime "are capable of bringing the Nobel Peace Prize laureate to trial", then they will commit "any crime to stay in power".

"It is the same crime as torture and inhumane treatment in pre-trial detention centers, extrajudicial killings of political opponents and terror on the streets of Belarus," Tsikhanovskaya said.

"The fact that this crime takes place under the guise of a court, where the role of the judge, accusers and defenders are played by supporters of the regime, does not make it a lesser crime."

"We all know who should appear before the court - dictator Lukashenka and his associates.

We will continue to fight to return real justice to Belarus, to release all political prisoners and to ensure that those who commit crimes against our people are held accountable," Tikhanovskaya said.
