Two films with free admission on two consecutive days will be offered to its visitors by the "Peyo Yavorov" Regional Library on January 18 and 19, reports the cultural institution in Burgas.

One is dedicated to Martin Luther King, and the second is a film impression by director Hristo Dimitrov – Hindo based on a book by Dr. Lubomir Kaludov.

Originally titled King: A Filmed Record...Montgomery To Memphis, the Oscar-nominated documentary follows King's rise as an activist and leader of the civil rights movement during the 1955 to 1968.

It was first presented in its original format in a single screening on 20 March 1970, featuring rare footage of his speeches, protests and arrests.

Since then, the film has been distributed in a shortened version of more than an hour, but since 2010 it has been restored in its entirety by the Library of Congress, in collaboration with Richard Kaplan.

The new version uses film elements provided by the Museum of Modern Art in the USA.

It is now part of the documentary collection on the Kanory site.

Free access to it is provided by the American Center in the Burgas Regional Library, which opened in late 2022 and is supported by the US Embassy.

In it, visitors can access both the site and many other platforms, the library adds.

The legacy of Martin Luther King

On January 19, there will be a free screening of the film "Big and Small Rivers" directed by Hristo Dimitrov - Hindo, who is also the screenwriter together with Hristo Simeonov.

Dr. Lyubomir Kaludov's book "Big and Small Rivers" will be published in 2020 and contains 15 stories about the village of Kapatsite, it is stated on the website of the "East-West" publishing house.

The authors of the film present their work as an impression of the book with the same title, in which "there is no chronology, no rationalism, no deep and boring literary reflections, no recipes for what is true and what is not, but instead there is imagery, enchantment, a mixture of reality and phantasmagoria with increasing entertainment and emotional tension".
