A special meeting of the Institute of History named after Abbasgulu Agha Bakikhanov was held with the participation of Academician Isa Habibbeyli, President of ANAS.

It was noted that the academician Isa Habibbayli, who opened the event with his opening speech, said that the structural reforms in the Presidium of ANAS have largely been completed, and that these reforms also include the Academy's scientific and research institutions.


Drawing attention to the calls made by the President of the country, Ilham Aliyev, regarding Western Azerbaijan, the head of ANAS emphasized that a number of important issues have been identified that must be solved by historical scientists in this direction.

The writing of the historical geography of Western Azerbaijan, the preparation of the atlas, the study of the nature of the deportations and Armenian aggression in this region, etc., were brought to attention.

At the same time, topical issues related to the investigation of the ancient period of Azerbaijan's history and the independence stage were discussed at the meeting.

In order to implement new calls for the study of the history of Azerbaijan, special reforms were carried out in the institute and new positions were appointed.

Doctor of Philosophy in History Ilgar Niftaliyev has been appointed the executive director of the institute, Doctor of Philosophy in History Jabi Bahramov has been appointed the head of the newly created department of Western Azerbaijan history, and Doctor of History Ikram Agasiyev has been appointed the head of the department of the history of the Soviet era of Azerbaijan.

At the end of his speech, the head of ANAS emphasized the special importance of expansion of research related to West Azerbaijan, based on the calls of the head of the country, and gave recommendations and tasks to the employees of the newly created department of West Azerbaijan in the scientific research institution.


The director of the Institute of History, professor Karim Shukurov, expressed his gratitude to the management of ANAS for the attention and care shown to the scientific-research institution, and concluded that they will cope with the new tasks set before them, and will respond to the calls of the head of the country with their practical activities.
