A terrifying video has surfaced on social media in which a huge python is seen emerging from the bonnet of a moving car.

The video was made by a user in Krabi, southern Thailand, on December 27 while he was driving at night.

The 27-second clip shows the python raising its head and half of its body in front of the windscreen of the car.

The dangerous python appeared confused and didn't know that when it came out of its hiding hole it disappeared back inside.

The driver, identified as Chalerumphon, told Viral Press, "I was driving on a road and then I saw the snake in front of my car. I was very scared and thought 'what if the car was moving. Can it find a way in?"

It could have resulted in a bad accident."

The driver said that he immediately stopped the vehicle at the nearest bus stop and called emergency services.

Chalerumphon continued, "Now I'm careful driving. I keep looking around the car to see if there's a snake. It was very scary coming back home that night."

It was a reticulated python, a species native to Southeast Asia.

This species is one of the largest snakes in the world and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.

According to the Encyclopædia Britannica, a reticulated python attained a maximum recorded length of 9.6 m (31.5 ft).

They are usually found in forests, swamps and canals, but in recent years, due to encroachment by humans, these reptiles have also been found crawling in cities.
