The Njombe Regional Police Force is holding a resident of Mawengi village in Kipanya Ward, Njombe City Council, Otmary Wanderage (38) on suspicion of raping an old woman over 80 years old.

Njombe Regional Police Commander, Hamis Issa said that the young man attacked the old woman and was able to accomplish the act.

He said the young man has been arrested and when the investigation is completed he will be brought to court.

"People should stop having strange desires, you young man going to rape and assault an 80-year-old woman, what kind of cruelty is that?

It is an intolerable brutality, we urge the citizens not to get involved in any kind of crime, the law will follow its course and not otherwise," said Commander Issa.

In another step, the commander said the police are holding two people on suspicion of wounding.

The commander named Baraka Alfonce (20), a resident of Kimbila, Ludewa for allegedly injuring his superior, Patrick Mdege (35).

It is alleged that the suspect owed him Shs 65,000.

After demanding and seeing that he was not paid, he cut his rich man's left palm using a sharp object.

Another one held by the police is Grace Kiumbu (30) who is a resident of Idindilimunyo village, Wanging`ombe District Council who is accused of injuring her younger father, Tiles Kiumbu (60) by cutting his private parts and keeping them aside.

It was stated that the suspect has mental problems.
