A six-year-old child identified as Tumaini Emmanuel, has died from what is alleged to have accidentally hanged himself from a mango tree while swinging.

The incident happened in Ndurumo Village, the fourth road in Nsimbo Council in Katavi region.

It is claimed that the child was at their house and it is his habit to play on the tree, tying a rope on the tree and starting to swing.

When the incident happened, his parents were in the field and no one was near their house to save him other than when the passers-by saw his body on a tree ready to die the next day.

Talking about the death of their child, the parents said they got the information while in the field because the child who lost his life remained at home with his sister.

"I was not at home, the child went to hang himself from the rope above the mango tree, he was swinging, I heard he had tied a rope around his neck," said the child's father, Emmanuel Kagoma.

"There was no quarrel, he was playing and apparently he tied a rope on a tree, now while he was swinging he put his neck in the rope while his feet were on the ground... So that's what happened," explained the child's mother, Juliana Kiana.

Neighbors said that they are used to hearing incidents like hanging themselves in adults and not in children as happened in the family, so they were surprised by the incident.

"We received this incident with surprise, because the child was young and could not reach the decision to hang himself and that is why we say it was an accident.

He hanged himself in the same games as children who steal their father's pistol and shot themselves without knowing it," said a neighbor who did not want to be named in the newspaper.

Another neighbor said: "When we inquired, we were told that the child was very fond of playing there using a rope as a swing.

What we feel, since he was alone, he saw that he had no one to push him in the swing, so he felt that when he puts the rope around his neck, he will swing easily."
