The article provoked a violent reaction and led to a large number of complaints to the independent press regulator.

The Sun issued a new statement on Friday saying it sincerely regrets publishing the story, People reports.

In her article, Clarkson referenced a famous scene from Game of Thrones, writing: "At night I can't sleep because I lie there grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day she'll be made to walk naked through the streets of every city in Britain while crowds chant: " Shame!" and throw lumps of excrement at her."

It was about Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

Oh dear.

I've rather put my foot in it.

In the column I'm going to talk about Meghan, I'm going to do a deep drawing for a scene in Game of Thrones and it has a bottom with big people.

I'm horrified to have caused so much hurt and I shall be more careful in the future.

The article was removed from The Sun website on Monday with a message saying: "In light of Jeremy Clarkson's tweet, he asked us to remove the column last week."

The presenter of Top Gear was condemned for comments about Meghan Markle.

And his daughter publicly stated that she does not support her father in this matter.

In a tweet posted after the article was published, Clarkson called it a "clumsy reference to a scene from Game of Thrones", admitting it was "not well received by a lot of people". more cautious," added Clarkson.

Meanwhile, The Sun newspaper said in a statement on Friday: "The opinions of columnists are their own, but as a publisher we understand that with freedom of speech comes responsibility. We at The Sun sincerely regret the publication of this article."

"I think what he said about Meghan Markle was just terrible," she said, according to The Times.

"My overwhelming feeling about guys like Jeremy Clarkson is pity. I mean, what makes someone so warped by hate that they end up writing these things? I think that maybe gives an insight into Jeremy Clarkson and the kind of person he is... So maybe he just needs to take a step back and think a little more about life."
