Actress Jane Fonda, who is suffering from cancer, has announced that she is in remission and this is "the best birthday present she has ever received", DPA reported.

She also announced that she may stop chemotherapy.

The 84-year-old actress said she felt "so blessed and happy", thanking the people who sent her well wishes and prayed for her.

Fonda made the announcement just over three months after revealing that she had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and had begun treatment.

In a blog post, the actress, who will turn 85 on December 21, wrote: "Last week my oncologist told me my cancer is in remission and I can stop chemotherapy... I feel so blessed, so happy. Thank you to all of you who have been praying and sending good thoughts... I'm sure that played a part in the good news."

Jane Fonda is involved in various social causes.

In September, when she announced her diagnosis, she raised the question of how many Americans "don't have access to quality health care" because of insurance issues, and called for discussion of the effects fossil fuels can have on people's health.

The actress is the winner of two Academy Awards for her roles in 1971's Klut and 1978's Homecoming. Her films also include Barbarella and Nine to Five, as well as and in the series on the Netflix streaming platform "Grace and Frankie", adds BTA.
