King Charles III met with members of both Houses of Parliament, including the Speakers of both Houses, as well as the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition.

The king unveiled a memorial plaque, at the site where Queen Elizabeth II's coffin stood next to similar plaques to previous British monarchs, including the late queen's father and grandfather.

It was a particularly important event as it was the first time the monarch paid homage to his predecessor, his mother the Queen, who had been on the throne for 70 long years.

The king was dressed in a low-key black coat and blue suit.

Under the coat, the monarch was wearing a white shirt and a blue print tie.

It should be noted that today Charles III, together with his wife Queen Camilla and other members of the family, will attend the Christmas concert organized by the Princess of Wales in Westminster Abbey.

The event will be dedicated to the memory of Queen Elizabeth II.
