The photo was taken on September 5 during the Highland Games in Bremer, Scotland, three days before the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Then Princess Anne was at the event with the royal couple.

The couple chose a special photo for their card as it was the last time Charles would appear at such a public event while still holding the title of Prince of Wales.

Already on September 8, he was proclaimed king of Great Britain.

Charles was dressed in a green checkered kilt, while Camilla wore a green coat with a red check lining, a feather-trimmed beret to match, a milky white blouse, and tall leather boots.

"We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year," says the signature on the postcard.

This year, members of the royal family will celebrate the holidays for the first time without Queen Elizabeth II.

On Thursday, December 15, the Princess of Wales will host a Christmas concert at Westminster Abbey.

It will be dedicated to the memory of the monarch.
