In the cold season, the skin needs additional hydration and protection.

Some experts advise buying a moisturizing cream with a denser structure.

Others - change the moisturizing cream to a nourishing one.

The third is to use two creams.

In the morning – moisturizing, at night – nourishing.

Which cream to choose so that the skin survives the cold, and what should be in its composition, told

the cosmetologist, dermatovenerologist Hanna Kravchuk.

Functions of moisturizing and nourishing cream

A moisturizer is supposed to hydrate.

And nutritious - saturates the skin with useful substances.

What do they actually do?

Moisturizing cream:

  • supports or restores the epidermal barrier;

  • saturates the epidermis with vitamins and trace elements;

  • softens and soothes the skin;

  • aligns the microrelief.

Nutrient does all the same.

It differs in composition from moisturizing.

The nutrient contains saturated fatty acids, waxes, essential oils.

Due to this, it tends to have a denser, oilier texture.

What gives?

Oils create a thin film on the skin that does not breathe, which minimizes the evaporation of moisture.

There is a heaviness effect - epidermal tissue swelling.

What do we mean when we say: "The cream nourishes the skin"?

It saturates it with vitamins, minerals, trace elements, and fatty acids.

Any cream - moisturizing or nourishing - works mainly at the level of the epidermis.

The skin consists of three layers - epidermis, dermis, hypodermis.

The epidermis is made up of five more layers.

It is even theoretically impossible to saturate all of them with useful substances with the help of 2-3 g of cream.

Therefore, if we live, then only the horny layer of the epidermis.

This is the first point.

The second important point: the skin is part of the excretory system.

Through it, the end products of metabolism are removed from the body.

The skin can absorb cosmetic ingredients, but it cannot digest them like, for example, the digestive system.

The third important point is that the skin takes the microelements (zinc, iodine) and macroelements (calcium, phosphorus) it needs from the large blood flow.

Nourishing cream with zinc will not cover zinc deficiency in the skin.

Like collagen cream - collagen deficiency.

Moisturize, moisturize, and moisturize again

A skin type moisturizer is what your skin needs at any time of the year.

In autumn and winter, I recommend using a cream with glycerin, squalene, urea, ceramides (lipids), niacinamide, hyaluronic and pyroglutamic acids, vitamins C, E in the composition.

It is ideal if the cream is selected for you by a cosmetologist, taking into account the condition and needs of your skin.

If you want to moisturize your skin additionally, use serums with active components, night masks, day masks for tissues.

The basis of moisturized skin is a healthy epidermal barrier.

It consists of a hydrolipid mantle and a lipid-epidermal barrier.

Now please concentrate.

The hydrolipid mantle is a thin, invisible film that covers the epidermis, the top layer of the skin.

It creates and maintains a normal acid-alkaline balance (pH), which controls the ratio of bad and good microorganisms on the skin.

Folk wisdom says: the pH has been disturbed, wait for acne, fungal diseases and other troubles.

The lipid-epidermal barrier at the expense of our own lipids, that is, fats, maintains the necessary level of hydration in the skin.

How?

By retaining water that has come from the deep layers of the skin, for example, from the dermis, the epidermis (the top layer of the skin).

Skin care should be correct and gentle so that the integrity of the epidermal barrier is not violated.

Otherwise, no cream will help you get rid of dryness, tightness, peeling and redness.

The epidermal barrier of the skin of the face is broken by hot tap water, parabens that are washed away, alcohol, the habit of cleaning the skin until it squeaks with scented soap, intensive scrubbing, cosmetics that are not selected for the skin type.

If you have a healthy epidermal barrier, you use a good skin-like moisturizer in the morning and in the evening, there is no need to buy a nourishing cream.

And to increase the amount of your own lipids in the lipid-epidermal barrier, eat foods rich in essential fatty acids, in particular Omega-3.
