The St Edward's Crown, which will be placed on the King's head on Coronation Day at Westminster Abbey, has reportedly left the iconic Tower of London, where it is stored with other crown jewels, in preparation for the historic service on Saturday 6 May 2023.

On Saturday, Buckingham Palace announced that St. Edward's crown, which will be the centerpiece of the event, is on its way and will undergo some "modification" before the coronation in five months, writes People.

Queen Charles III, 74, will be crowned during the coronation service at Westminster Abbey.

The crown was first made for Charles II in 1661 and replaced the previous crown which was melted down in 1649.

It is also likely that King Charles will wear a lighter Imperial State Crown when he leaves the ceremony.

Charles's mother - Elizabeth II - was also crowned in the crown of St. Edward on the day of the coronation (since then no one wore this crown anymore), but then she wore another - the crown of the British Empire, which was created in 1937 for the coronation of Elizabeth II's father - King George VI - by Garrard & Co.

Her successor, King Charles, will wear the crown on occasions such as the State Opening of Parliament.

In addition to the crown of St. Edward, the new king will be presented with a coronation ring, called the engagement ring of England, which will be worn on the ring finger of the monarch's right hand.
