In 1959, the preparation of a puppet department at VITIZ (now NATFIZ) began, which would be responsible for the training of professional puppeteers in the country.

On November 15, 1962, Nikolina Georgieva, Atanas Ilkov and arch.

Ivan Tsonev accepted the first graduating class "Acting Mastery for Puppet Theater", a total of 15 people (10 women and 5 men), after 4 years they graduated from the 11th grade.

In 1966, the Educational Puppet Theater was opened with the performances "Carnival of the Animals" staged by Nikolina Georgieva, to the music of Saint-Saens and "Light Blue Peter" by Urban Gyula, staged by Atanas Ilkov.

In 1972, the "Directing for Puppet Theater" specialty was opened, and in 1992, the "Scenography for Puppet Theater" specialty was opened.

In the first years, the performances created in the training process are performed on the stage of the Educational Drama Theater

and in one of the rehearsal halls on "G.

S. Rakovski".

Only at the beginning of the 80s, the students of the puppetry majors at VITIZ received a stage specially created for their needs - equipped with the necessary equipment, a hall with 90 seats, in the building at 20 Stefan Karadzha Street.

Due to its nature - less verbal and more visual, due to the lighter and easily portable decor and props, educational puppet shows quickly reach world festivals.

The first prize for VITIZ Educational Puppet Theater was brought by the festival in Montreux, Switzerland - 1968, with the performance "Carnival of the Animals".

Over the years, the repertoire has mainly supported titles for the little ones, but there is no lack of performances for adults and experimental projects.

Today, NATFIZ Puppet Theater continues to be the theater with the youngest troupe in the country.

The artists who will devote their lives to Bulgarian and world puppetry are still trained on its stage, and the audience actively participates in strengthening them on stage.

For their professional training, the brightest representatives of dramaturgy, acting, directing and scenography in the field of puppet theater are attracted.

In connection with the worthy celebration of the 60th anniversary, the "Puppet Theater" Department at NATFIZ initiated three events - an anniversary exhibition that took place in July in the park in front of the National Theater, a scientific conference for experts - creators and researchers of the puppet theater and a gala performance .

The scientific conference is being held today, December 5, in the space of the NATFIZ Puppet Theater.

The performance that will gather the puppet guild from the country on December 16 is "The Love of Don Perlimplin" by Federico García Lorca.

The production and adaptation belong to Prof. Bonyo Lungov, the direction is the work of Prof. Dr. Konstantin Karakostov, Assistant Professor Marian Rangelov and Assistant Professor Lyubomir Genchev, the scenography and puppets are by Evgenia Lacheva, and the music is by Metodi Ivanov and Elena Metodieva.

The play "The Love of Don Perlimplin" was written back in 1933 by the notable Spanish writer Federico García Lorca.

The strength of this drama is that it is still relevant today.
