The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced today two new cases of severe illness after being infected with influenza. They are a child in his teens and a young man in his 20s. Due to their critical condition, both are currently in the intensive care unit.

There was also one flu death.

The young man in his 20s suddenly developed symptoms such as unconsciousness and incoherent speech on the 19th of last month, and was rushed to the emergency room for treatment. Later, he was found to be infected with type A influenza.

Another boy in his teens was vaccinated against influenza in October but had a history of underlying medical conditions.

He began to experience symptoms such as loss of appetite, phlegm, and fever on the 16th of last month and did not relieve them.

The boy was sent to the hospital for emergency treatment and developed pneumonia on the right side, and was diagnosed with influenza A virus H3N2. He was admitted to the hospital and treated with antiviral drugs, but his symptoms did not improve significantly. On the 22nd, he was transferred to the intensive care unit for care due to shortness of breath and low blood pressure.

This season's flu season has been going on since October, so far there have been 11 cases of severe flu complicated by influenza, with 3 deaths. Most of the cases were infected with H3N2, and most of them were not vaccinated.

Center for Disease Control and Prevention spokesman Zhuang Renxiang said that it is difficult to evaluate the flu at present, because the mild symptoms overlap with the new crown, and the downward trend may be the new crown, which has nothing to do with the flu.

In terms of severe cases, Zhuang Renxiang said that in the past, during the epidemic period of influenza, there were probably dozens of cases every week. At present, severe cases are still sporadic, and the evaluation has not yet reached the epidemic period.
