APPROXIMATELY 70 percent of the group of young people between 15-24 years who get new HIV infections are girls.

The statement issued by the Minister of State, Office of the Prime Minister (Policy, Parliament, and Coordination) George Simbachawene, today November 30 explained.

He said that in 2021 there were 212 new cases every week for the group of girls aged 15-24, while there were 30 new cases every day for that group of girls

Simbachawene has given this information at the peak of youth activities in Lindi Region towards the celebration of World Aids Day tomorrow December.

Following the statement, the Minister has given an opinion to all young people in the country to participate in HIV testing services voluntarily so that they can identify their health and take appropriate measures to prevent themselves from HIV infection.

In addition, Simbachawene has asked girls to consider the content of various campaigns to protect themselves from HIV infection.

"Those of you in schools and colleges make sure you focus on education and avoid all risky behaviors that lead to HIV infection," he said.
