[Reporter Ling Meixue/Taipei Report] Banqiao Lin Benyuan's family, Lin Boshou, and his descendants deposited cultural relics in the "Lanqianshan Pavilion" in the Forbidden City. Due to the expiration of the storage contract, the National Palace Museum tends not to renew the contract. The owner of the cultural relics, the Lin family, has not made it public so far. take a stand.

However, Chen Xuesheng, the convener of the cultural and educational group of the Kuomintang think tank, said yesterday (28th) that in order to prevent the cultural relics of the "Lanqianshan Museum" from being flown overseas, he has launched a joint action to "rescue the cultural relics of the Lanqianshan Museum and keep the national treasure in Taiwan". The past directors demanded that the Forbidden City continue to sign cultural relic deposit contracts on the grounds of tradition.

In this regard, the Forbidden City issued a three-point statement today (29th), calling on the outside world to respect the wishes and privacy of the owners of cultural relics, and not to interpret the wishes of their ancestors at will. The two parties in this case are still negotiating.

Please read on...

The Forbidden City's full statement reads as follows:

1. The cultural relics of the Lanqianshan Museum are privately owned, and the storage contract expires a few days ago.

The Forbidden City has asked the depositor to retrieve it, and at the request of the depositor, has given a buffer period for the retrieval operation.

As for whether to negotiate a new storage contract with the owner, neither party has talked about it so far.

2. We appeal to the outside world to respect the wishes and privacy of the owners of cultural relics. Please do not quote the content of the agreement that has long since expired, and arbitrarily interpret the wishes of everyone’s ancestors, such as "eternal preservation of the Forbidden City", "donation in lieu of sending", etc. without evidence.

3. At present, both parties in this case are still negotiating. In the future, the Forbidden City will formulate a more complete depository system on the premise of conforming to museum ethics, and negotiate a new contract while respecting everyone's wishes.
