The National Archives of Scotland published an official document in which the cause of death of the 96-year-old Queen of Great Britain Elizabeth II was named.

But Giles Brandreth's new biography, Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait, claims the queen died peacefully at her beloved Balmoral in Scotland after a battle with bone cancer.

Although old age was given as the official cause of her death, Mr Brandreth, who had been a friend of Prince Philip since the 1970s, said the disease took the Queen's life, express.co.uk said.

It should be noted that the author of the book, also a Conservative MP, has been able to gain such excellent access to the royal family since he struck up a friendship with Prince Philip in the 1970s when they both attended a charity event.

Although old age was given as the official cause of her death, Mr Brandreth, a friend of Prince Philip, said that illness had taken the Queen's life.

It is believed that the monarch remained steadfast until the end of her days and worked even in the last hours before her death.

Two days before the death of Elizabeth II, the new Prime Minister Liz Truss welcomed her.
