The Investigative Committee of Belarus has registered "crimes of an extremist orientation" since the beginning of 2022, he said in an interview with "SB.

At the same time, according to him, more than half of them "were committed in 2020-2021", so "we can conclude that there is no increase in the number of such crimes."

In total, since 2020, the SC recorded more than 11,000 "extremist" crimes in Belarus, mostly after the presidential elections.

According to Vasiliev, most often they "take place outside the borders of our country and on the Internet."

Vasiliev also spoke about the investigation of more than 30 criminal cases for an "act of terrorism" (Article 289 of the Criminal Code).

According to him, part of these cases "is in progress", a decision has already been made on a part, the rest "have been sent to the prosecutor's office for further consideration in court".

"In particular, we are talking about terrorist attacks on railways and highways," Vasiliev noted.

According to the deputy head of the SC, "such crimes were committed at the behest of foreign curators of extremist communities", so in some cases criminals are additionally accused of treason.

Diversions on the Belarusian railway began shortly after Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24 from the territory of Belarus.
