In an interview with GQ magazine, "Titanic" director James Cameron shared interesting details about the filming of the world blockbuster, which next month celebrates 25 years since its premiere.

Now Cameron shares that Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio (in English: Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio) is an American actor, winner of one and Kate Winslet, who played the main characters, were not his initial choice.

He felt that Gwyneth Paltrow was more suitable for the role of Rose, as he feared that Winslet had repeatedly stepped into the shoes of similar characters.

"She had also been in a few other historical dramas and had developed a reputation as 'Corseted Kate' doing historical things," says Cameron.

The director was afraid that if Kate got the part, it would look like "the laziest casting in the world", but he decided to give her a chance anyway, he met her and she seemed "fantastic".

The rest is history...

There were a few initial difficulties with DiCaprio.

After the first "hysterical" meeting with the actor, in which all the women in the production office somehow ended up in the conference room with Cameron, DiCaprio was invited back to a rehearsal with Winslet, who by then had already been cast.

However, Leonardo had no idea that this was another audition.

At the time, he already had an Oscar nomination for his role in 1993's Why Gilbert Grape Dies.

"We're just going to read some lines and I'm going to film it," Cameron said, and then the actor exploded.

"You mean I read? I don't," DiCaprio replied, implying that he no longer thought he should be auditioning for film roles.

Cameron then reached out to him saying, "Well, thanks for coming."

The director later explained to DiCaprio how massive the project was, how the film would take two years of his life to make, and how he, as a director, "wasn't going to screw it up by making a bad casting decision."

"So you either read or you don't get the part," James told Leonardo, who reluctantly complied.

"Titanic" was released in theaters on December 19, 1997, and its success was more than proverbial - it won 11 Oscars, including Best Director for Cameron.
