While King Charles III and Prince William laid wreaths, the rest of the royal family watched from the balcony of the Foreign Office for Commonwealth Affairs and Development.

King Charles was overcome with emotion on the day, the first time he has attended a first memorial service without his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died a few months ago.

Charles' wife, Queen Consort Camilla and Princess Kate watched from a balcony.

It was on this balcony that the public always saw Queen Elizabeth II.

In recent years, Charles has acted as the Prince of Wales on behalf of the Queen, but this year, when the two minutes' silence began, he appeared before the Cenotaph as head of state.

The king led the royal procession, followed by working royals Princess Anne, Prince William and Prince Edward.

New Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was also present at the event and laid a wreath as well, while his wife Akshata Murthy watched the proceedings from the balcony.
