A handover ceremony of medical equipment was held within the framework of the project to support vaccination against COVID-19, implemented by the World Health Organization (WHO) with the financial support of the European Union (EU).

According to the information given to APA by WHO, the Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Dr.

Dr. Nadir Zeynalov, head of the medical activity organization department of the Medical Territorial Units Management Union (TABIB).

Dr. Teymur Mirzabeyli, representative of WHO in Azerbaijan and head of the Country Office.

Hande Harmanci, Ambassador of the European Union to Azerbaijan Peter Mikhalko and local health partners participated.

In order to strengthen the cold chain system for the storage and transportation of both COVID-19 and routine vaccines in the country, 3,000 frost indicators, 520 vaccine carriers, 70 cold boxes of different liters and 1,800 refrigerators for all the refrigerators used in the country's vaccination centers were provided to the Ministry of Health and TABIB. The device providing 30-day temperature monitoring was delivered.

At the event, the importance of the equipment handed over to local healthcare partners was emphasized in terms of strengthening the cold chain system in the country and delivering vaccines to people in safe conditions.

In order to properly use the equipment and devices provided, it is planned to conduct training for the employees of all vaccination stations.

According to the results of the inventory of cold chain equipment carried out across the country with the technical support of WHO, it is planned to continue the supply of cold chain equipment and medical devices that are more needed in the country within the framework of the Project.

In order to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthen routine immunization programs in Azerbaijan, the WHO Representation in Azerbaijan has started implementing a three-year project of Support to Vaccination against COVID-19 with the financial support of the European Union from June 2021.

This project is part of the continuous support of the European Union and the World Health Organization to Azerbaijan.
