Listening to sounds associated with pleasant things in everyday life reduces nightmares, the Mail Online reported.

Headphones in the ears during sleep prove to be a means of avoiding the stress of traumatic dreams.

The sound of the piano, for example, reduces the risk of nightmares.

It is important to note that the piano should have positive associations for the one who chooses its sound. 

Nightmares and their interpretation

Nightmares are a sign of a clinical problem if they recur too often.

Traumatic dreams are not just different for different people, they also vary from country to country.

In the UK, for example, many people suffer from bee-related nightmares.

Scientists from the University of Geneva found that listening to sounds that a person associates with pleasant things in their daily life can manipulate the nightmare and change the "story" in the dream. 

"We asked the patients to imagine an alternative scenario of their nightmares.

While they were doing this, piano sounds could be heard," says Sophie Schwartz, one of the authors of the study.

The results of the experiment showed that participants who then listened to piano sounds during sleep reactivated a positive memory.

The nightmares subside within two weeks, adds BTA.
