As noted by Anais Marin, the Belarusian authorities are intensifying repression against the civil society.

According to her, the actions of the regime are reminiscent of a purge of unwanted elements, which have become non-state organizations, defenders, etc.

The UN special rapporteur on the situation with human rights in Belarus believes that the policy of the Belarusian government looks like revenge for the events of 2020.

All those who in some way criticized the authorities, including their position in the Russian aggression against Ukraine, face severe persecution.

Anais Maren noted that the Belarusian society now lives in fear, and Belarusians who have already left Belarus also feel this, as the security forces can put pressure on their relatives or destroy their property at home.

According to Anais Maren, the number of Belarusians who have left their homeland in the last two years may amount to several hundred thousand people.

However, due to various factors, it is impossible to name the exact number of those who left.

Anais Maren gave a special role in the report to legalization problems faced by Belarusian emigrants.

For example, if the passport expires, people who do not have a permanent residence permit abroad must return to their homeland for a new document, where they may be arrested.

Another challenge in the future will be the deprivation of citizenship, which is now possible according to Belarusian legislation.
