The first meeting of the newly elected Management Board of the Azerbaijan Press Council was held today.

According to the information provided to APA by the Press Council, the meeting was opened by the chairman of the Council, editor-in-chief of "525-ci Gazet" Rashad Majid, who congratulated the members of the Board of Directors of the Council elected at the 8th congress of Azerbaijani journalists and wished them success in their future activities.

Speaking about the role of the Council of Ministers in the regulation of media-society and media-government relations, R. Majid said that the institution has successfully carried out this mission for many years under the leadership of Aflatun Amashov, a member of the Council of Ministers, who is currently working as the editor-in-chief of "Xalq newspaper".

R. Majid emphasized that a more dynamic period of activity is waiting for the Council in accordance with the challenges of the new era, and expressed confidence that each member of the Board of Directors will benefit the common work.

After that, the structures of the National Council were formed.

The dean of Baku State University, professor Vugar Zifaroglu, a member of public representatives of IH, Saadat Mammadova, advisor to the president of ATV, a member of journalists, were elected as the deputies of the chairman of the Council.

R. Majid nominated Avaz Rustamov, who currently works as the head of the monitoring group in the Council, for the position of executive secretary of the Council.

The proposal was accepted by the members of the IH.

At the meeting, the decision of the meeting of the Control-Inspection Commission of the Press Council on September 29, 2022 was approved.

According to the decision, Ray Karimoglu, editor-in-chief of the "Gaziler.az" website, was appointed as the chairman of NTK, and Nadir Azeri, chairman of the Central Asia and South Caucasus Freedom of Speech Network, was appointed as the secretary of the organization.

The second issue on the agenda was the determination of the composition of the commissions of the Council of Ministers.

First, the composition of the Complaints Commission was approved.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors is Vugar Zifaroglu, the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors, and the members of the IH include Azer Hasrat, editor-in-chief of the "Bayragdar.info" website, Aydın Guliyev, editor-in-chief of "Baku Khabar" newspaper, Akif Ashirli, editor-in-chief of "Sharq" newspaper, Jeyhun Musaoglu, chairman of the Journalist Expert Center, "Azxeber". Hajibey Heydarli, the editor-in-chief of the .com website, Bahruz Mammadzadeh, the deputy chairman of the "Veterans, Martyrs' Families and Veterans of Special Forces" Public Union, have been confirmed as representatives in the Commission.

R. Majid informed that a new Ethics Commission was established at the 8th congress of Azerbaijani journalists.

The main mission of this organization will be to monitor trends related to the protection of ethical principles in our information space, and to organize discussions in the current direction.

The commission's activities include prompt response to negative trends in the media.

The meeting focused on the chairmanship of the Ethics Commission by Gulu Muharramli, a member of the IH, professor of the Faculty of Journalism of Baku State University.

Gulu Muharramli is the chairman and the members of the IH are the editor-in-chief of "Xalq newspaper" Aflatun Amashov, the head of "APA Media Group" Vusala Mahirgizy,

As for the composition of the International Relations Commission of the Council of Ministers, the chairmanship of Mushfiq Alasgarli, a member of the Board of Directors and the chairman of the Journalists' Trade Union, was evaluated as acceptable.

The commission includes Umud Rahimoglu, head of the International Eurasian Press Fund, Azer Hasrat, Yadigar Mammadli, chairman of the League of Democratic Journalists, Agil Alasgar, head of "Yeni Çag" Media Group, Elshad Eyvazli, head of "Modern" Media Group, Farid Pardaşunas, head of "Technote" Media Company, and Young Democrats. Yegane Hajiyeva, head of the institute, was included.

Council Chairman R. Majid stressed that the Council's Permanent Commission on communication between media and state institutions is also of great practical importance.

He pointed out that the commission includes employees of the General Prosecutor's Office, the Ministries of Internal Affairs, Justice, and the State Security Service.

After the discussions, Vugar Rahimzadeh, a member of the IH, editor-in-chief of "Iki sahil" newspaper, was confirmed as the chairman of the commission.

At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on declaring 2023 as the "Year of Heydar Aliyev" in Azerbaijan.

In this regard, it was proposed to prepare a plan of relevant measures by the Council of Ministers.

The Board of Directors discussed the text of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Press Council and the Media Development Agency.

In this regard, IH member M. Alasgarli made a presentation.

He said that in the draft memorandum, to support the improvement of media literacy and the professionalism of journalists, to develop and implement joint projects in order to increase the possibilities of strengthening the right of journalists to receive information, as well as the application of legal requirements for information published or broadcast in the media, "Rules of Ethical Conduct of Azerbaijani Journalists". To improve their capabilities, to implement joint educational events and other issues, other proposals will be considered.

The meeting also discussed the work plan of the Azerbaijan Press Council for October-December 2022.

In this regard, it was proposed to organize meetings with media experts, active social network users, users of popular pages on social networks, internet platform broadcasters, representatives of journalistic organizations, and internet information subjects who are not members of the Council of Ministers.

At the same time, until November 8 Victory Day, it was considered appropriate to hold meetings of the members of the Board of Directors with veterans, journalists who participated in the Patriotic War, and parents of martyrs.

At the meeting, there was also an exchange of views regarding the organization of training for media representatives on cyber security and professional principles on the impact of technological capabilities on journalistic activities.

A specific schedule has been defined for all the work to be done, the division of work has been carried out, and the persons responsible for implementation have been determined.

In the discussions on current issues, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers Saadat Mammadova, members of the Council of Ministers Umud Rahimoglu, Elchin Mirzabayli, Agil Alasgar, Yadigar Mammadli, Jeyhun Musaoglu and Azer Hasrat gave their proposals.

The proposals were related to the efficiency of the activities of the Press Council.

A broad exchange of views was held in the current direction.
