A carpet at home means even more coziness, softness and convenience in everyday life.

But it is a fact that even the most practical carpets need a little more careful maintenance than hard floors.

Especially when at home there are small children, pets, many guests or careless owners who often spill milk, wine, coffee and other things on them.

In the following lines, we will tell you how to remove most carpet stains at home in a few simple steps.

Step one: imbibe

When you see the stain, first remove the solid particles (eg mud, coffee grounds, sauce).

For this purpose, you can use a thin spatula or the blunt part of a wide knife.

Then make sure to absorb the liquid part of the substance as well as possible.

Blot gently with a paper towel or clean white cloth, pressing and changing the soiled cloth, but without rubbing.

Step two: identify the stain

Your second task is to find out what the stain is from.

In most cases you will probably know, but when there are children or pets in the home you will need to use your detective skills and check the color and smell.

Treating different stains can be different, but here we will tell you about a universal method that you can use to deal with most stains you will find on your carpet.

Step three: treat with a home remedy

Most common carpet stains can be removed with three simple ingredients you have at home: water, dish soap and white vinegar.

Put 1 tablespoon of detergent, ¼ cup of vinegar and 2 cups of water and mix well.

Dip a clean white cloth in the solution and gently apply to the stain.

Again, be careful not to rub so as not to spread the contamination and make the lesions larger.

The procedure is simple: wet the stain with the damp cloth, then blot with a cloth soaked in clean water.

Repeat until the color is gone, then allow to air dry.

Finally, vacuum to restore the good appearance of the fibers, which may be slightly crushed.

You can also use ready-made carpet cleaner

Of course, you can also use a ready-made, specialized carpet cleaner.

Read and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

For older stains, it is good to leave the detergent on for a little longer.

After the carpet is dry, vacuum up the fibers again.

When the spot reappears

Sometimes you may notice that the stain you supposedly removed reappears after a few days.

There could be two reasons for this.

One is that there may be detergent residue on the carpet fibers that becomes sticky and holds dirt, making you think the old stain is back.

The second is that the spill has soaked into the carpet backing and is absorbed back into the fibers over time, moving from the bottom to the top.

In such a case, it is good to water the place with clean, lukewarm water (no more than ¼ cup).

Then soak well and finally put on the damp place several layers of household paper and press it down with something heavy over their entire surface, leaving it to stand overnight.

Allow to air dry.
