On September 20, Pavlo Latushka's cousin,

Anatoly Latushka,

was sentenced to 6 years in prison and a fine of 300 basic.

Earlier, human rights activists reported that Anatoly was beaten after his arrest.

Details of the use of physical force by security forces against the political prisoner were announced during the trial, "Viasna" reports.

Thus, it is known from the case materials that Latushka was physically injured by police officers in the building of the Central Police Department on January 31, 2022, immediately after his arrest.

Anatoly's testimony was read out at the trial by judge

Dmytry Karsyuk

.

Latushka told during the investigation:

"On January 31, around 01:00, I was detained near my house, taken to the Central Police Department, taken to the fourth floor to one of the offices, then the officers who were there began to communicate.

The employee put a plastic bag on my head twice, while they explained that they wanted to get some information from me that I didn't know about.

Someone from the staff picked up a baton and started threatening her..." [judge omits part of the text].

"About some blows, at least 50 times...", the judge continued.

"They said that they wanted to get information from me regarding some Telegram channels.

I did not understand what they wanted from me.

Due to physical pressure being exerted on me, I agreed to give the testimony that the police officers told me.

In fact, I did not commit these crimes.

Later, when I began to testify, the police officers did not use physical force on me either.

Then I was sent down to the duty station, and the next day I worked with the investigator.

In the future, no one used physical force on me.

I want to clarify that the people who introduced themselves as employees of the State Department of Internal Affairs left the office before the use of physical force on me began," said Anatoly Latushka in his explanation.

The police prisoner confirmed these facts at the court, human rights activists report.

According to the medical documents of SIZA-1 dated February 2, which were announced at the trial, Latushka had extensive hematomas of the gluteal region on both sides, the back, inner and outer surface of the thighs on both sides, which were caused by contact with a hard blunt object/objects, individual the specifics of which are not recorded in the documents.

Anatoly Latushka explained at the court that the hematomas were formed precisely from blows with batons by police officers.
