French star Juliette Binoche, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival, said actresses should learn to turn down roles that present women as objects, AFP reported.

Oscar-winning Binoche is among the most famous French actresses.

Juliette Binoche said that women in the cinema should learn to refuse roles that portray them only as someone's wife, i.e.

object.

"I say no because I'm not interested."

According to her, it is not always easy, but women with a career in cinema must learn to jump into the unknown and not follow macho codes.

Juliette Binoche is 58 years old.

She has played 75 roles in cinema since her debut in 1983 until now.

She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in The English Patient.

Meryl Streep, Richard Gere, Ian McKellen, Robert De Niro have been among the winners of the "Donostia" award over the years.
