The administration has rejuvenated the bus stand, which came into the limelight after the local people cut apart the waiting benches for the passengers and the subsequent demonstrations by the students sitting on each other's laps.

Along with this, the cut bench has also been removed.

In fact, the local people did not want boys and girls to sit together on the only bench of the bus stand, so they cut it apart.

Mayor Arya S.

After Rajendran promised to build a common bus stand at Srikaryam near Government Engineering College, Trivandrum, the civic authorities removed the cut bench after about two months.

Rajendra had gone to the spot in July after pictures of students protesting against the cutting of benches sitting on each other's laps surfaced.

The mayor later said in a post that the manner in which the bench was divided into three parts was not only "inappropriate" but also "inappropriate for a progressive society like Kerala". There is no bar on sitting with and those who still believe in ethical policing are living in ancient times.

The ruling CPI(M)'s Yuva Morcha DYFI also said that cutting of benches at the bus stand is unacceptable.
